DIGBETH GETS THE NOD

A bold new vision for Digbeth has taken a major step forward: Birmingham City Council has granted planning approval for the £100 million regeneration of Phoenix Yard, unlocking the potential of a 2.8-acre former industrial brownfield site in a strategic location near the centre of the city.

Spearheaded by Hartwell PLC and Allford Hall Monaghan Morrism M+A worked in collaboration with Ridge, Cundall, Hoare Lea, and Newmark UK to bring together the approved plans to deliver a dynamic mixed-use development. The scheme includes approximately 260,000 sq ft of media and educational space, new commercial floorspace, retail units, and the creation of 240 homes.

At the heart of the project is a high-quality public realm and landscaped green spaces, envisioned as a welcoming gateway into Digbeth’s creative quarter – a place for collaboration, innovation, and community. The designs pay tribute to the site’s industrial heritage, with sustainability ambitions targeting BREEAM ‘Excellent’, WELL, WiredScore Platinum, SmartScore, and a biodiversity net gain.

This approval marks a key step toward reimagining Phoenix Yard as a landmark destination that supports Digbeth’s continued evolution as a thriving hub for creativity and entrepreneurship.
