We enjoy a challenge and designing welcoming meanwhile spaces is a more common occurrence these days in our portfolio of public realm placemaking. We had the exciting opportunity to repurpose Richard Rogers’ Yellow Pavilion previously next to The O2 dome on the Greenwich Peninsula which Quintain relocated to Wembley.
The new location within the Wembley masterplan, which is one of the UK’s largest urban regeneration programmes, sits directly adjacent to Olympic Way and to Brent Civic House in the southern corner of the existing Yellow Parking Lot.
The brief was to create an outdoor ‘place’, offering a new destination point in the Wembley Park estate for visitors and residents alike. The scheme involved the use of planting as a green buffer to the surrounding hardscape in combination with a vibrant surface treatment to make an identifiable ‘pop-up’ space. The intended operators would be a mix of independent retail food outlets, providing bar food and dining experience.
