New Union Wharf, Isle of Dogs

East Thames commissioned the inspiring Jestico & Whiles and M+A to visualise the complete redevelopment of New Union Wharf, a 1970’s-built housing estate in East London. The result was an award-winning housing scheme bringing 400 new social and private homes with public realm and communal gardens.

Extensive consultation with existing residents and third parties culminated in a proposal for wholesale redevelopment of the estate which is currently characterized by concrete, bare grass areas, blind corners and poor lighting. Replacing chaotically placed buildings with a clear pattern of streets designed to create an intimate residential home zone, our landscape design delivered attractive spaces by day and safe by night.
