Under the umbrella of this initiative, an anonymous RIBA open-competition was held to create a green strategy to underpin the future development of the mighty Victorian structure. While the international competition attracted over 100 entries from 35 countries, our winning submission, led by PDP London, was the Low Line Commons which aims to transform the viaduct from a barrier to a green seam. The project focused on incorporating biodiversity and climatic resilience, not only providing opportunities for ecology but greater green spaces that get people walking and cycling more; connecting communities through nature and addressing high levels of isolation, inactivity and loneliness.
