BRE Innovation Park has been a showcase of the very latest in innovative methods of construction, and cutting-edge practical, affordable sustainability. The Park, at the centre of the Watford site, features a number of demonstration properties showcasing Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), near zero-carbon homes, and over 200 different innovative and emerging technologies.
Since being officially opened (by then Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott), the Park has attracted over 20,000 visitors as well as VIP guests including HRH Prince of Wales, Government Ministers and civil servants.
The landscape addresses many issues covered by the Code for Sustainable Homes including pollution, water, health and well-being, materials, surface water run-off, waste and ecology. The Park achieves the highest Code for Sustainable Homes score available for ecological design, by incorporating native plants in three distinct habitats - wetland, meadow and scrub. The Park landscape also acts as a cohesive feature in the development.
