A new era has dawned for the TV and film industry, with the state-of-the-art production facilities being unveiled in Bedfordshire. Home of Production (HOP) is spearheading a new film and TV studio development which will feature 65,000m2 of high-quality studios and workshops in a size and format unprecedented in the UK. Offices, food and beverage facilities as well as a crèche and a creative hub will line the central boulevard and canal in the centre of the site.
The plans for the industry-transforming facilities are bringing an exciting new use to the region, boosting the local economy with thousands of jobs and skilled opportunities in former brick quarry and brownfield site.
Our commission covered masterplanning and LVIA assessment for this significant film and TV studios development. The public realm strategy delivered legible connectivity throughout the scheme with a clear hierarchy of spaces, a series of new squares, and a green river corridor running through the site.
We headed up the Landscape and Visual Impact consultancy testing appropriate massing options for this area south-west of Bedford. This important work required an initial baseline investigation of the existing landscape character, before making an assessment of the landscape and visual effects of the proposed development. The report concluded with a section analysing the key mitigation measures required.
