Fowlmead Country Park

Successfully appointed from a mini-competition, we were delighted to undertake such a worthy commission transforming the largest of the Kent coalfields spoil heap to a magnificent leisure destination for the south-east. Fowlmead Country Park is a 97-hectare site built on the tip site of the former Betteshanger Colliery and formed part of SEEDA’s (South East England Development Agency) regeneration strategy.

The park aims to create a recreational space that is shared by people and nature and which contains one of the longest purpose-built cycling tracks in Europe as well as national standard BMX racing circuit. Horse riding and walking trails meander through woodland, wetland and meadow areas. Fowlmead Lake offers opportunities to see nature up close from the boardwalk, while the sculpture park contains exhibits from the history of the site and contemporary installations.
