Folkestone Harbour Link

Recognised with the Landscape Institute Excellence in Culture and Heritage award in 2019, M+A’s role was integral to the transformation of Folkestone’s redundant railway harbour viaduct, Swing Bridge and Station into a destination public space. The linear park also comprises of an events space and viewing platforms, offering a variety of opportunities for passive and active recreation.

The design maintains the existing engineered aesthetic of the post-industrial structure through sensitive material choices, with a mix of softer materials and planting to create a series of distinct spaces. Sympathetic to the surrounding townscape and historic context, the design is also vibrant and contemporary. Weathered metal, timber and gravel/shingle acknowledges the site’s coastal location and industrial past.
