UNDER PRESSURE

We are delighted to announce that after many months of design and negotiation with the LB Tower Hamlets and Historic England, planning and listed building consent has been granted for our scheme with the refurbishment and extension of the Grade II listed Wapping Hydraulic Pumping Station!

Originally built in 1890, the Wapping Pumping Station was run by the London Hydraulic Power Company. Since its closure in 1977, it houses an art gallery and food hall. There are high hopes that this development,  by UK Real Estate, will help attract new enterprise to the community and boost the local economy.

The scheme applies the idea of ‘succession’ of industrial landscapes and the heritage that they carry. The design proposals appeal to the site’s history and character, by retaining industrial machinery and integrating these elements as part of the landscape design.

The sensitive architectural interventions with a new contemporary landscape setting will breathe new life into this listed estate helping to revitalize the urban fabric for Wapping.
