SGN BELVEDERE – OLD GASWORKS HERITAGE SGN BELVEDERE

Excellent progress continues to be made in the delivery of a 550-home residential scheme on a 3.4-hectare old gasworks site owned by Scottish Gas Networks in Bexley with Bellway London Partnerships and Stockwool Architects.

The public realm and landscape masterplan celebrates the industrial heritage of the former gas works referencing the perceived geometries of the old gas holders. Within this overarching theme, the site is divided into different character areas with a main axis angled to reflect the main entrance to the site.

The masterplan has a stronger formality to the north, becoming more fluid and naturalistic towards the south and western periphery. Formal tree planting follows this geometry separating the spaces and creating a green spine to the central area.

The proposals for the Belvedere SGN site would improve pedestrian connections to existing residential areas to the east, provide new amenity spaces and social opportunities for the local area as well as create new habitats for wildlife.
