REVIVING THE HEART OF READING!

A major milestone has been reached for Reading’s town centre, as McLaren Living and Reading Borough Council enter a development agreement to deliver the £250m regeneration of Minster Quarter.

Set to transform the former civic centre, the scheme will introduce 600 new homes, 40,000sqft of commercial uses, a community hub, and a cultural destination that strengthens the setting of the Minster and the Hexagon Theatre.

Our bid-winning narrative for public realm centred around creating a people-focused place rooted in Reading’s heritage of arts, culture, and innovation. Central to this is a central plaza space framing the Hexagon Theatre, offering programmable space, generous greening, and seamless connections into the surrounding streets.

Our work extended public realm thinking beyond the red line, reshaping adjacent streets to improve the wider area and create improved space for an established weekly market, as well as reimagining the sub-podium environment with improved lighting, planting, and materials.
