REGENERATION WITH PURPOSE: BERMONDSEY HEIGHTS
A new chapter has unfolded in one of Southwark’s key regeneration areas of Old Kent Road. Bermondsey Heights has reached practical completion, unlocking 163 homes and 32 shared ownership homes. Delivered by Barratt London with dMFK architects, Macfarlane + Associates led the landscape and public realm delivery, with a strong focus on sustainability, biodiversity and meaningful play.
The scheme will deliver 890m² of new public realm, alongside 1,498m² of communal amenity space, and 738m² dedicated to children’s play. Landscaped podium gardens and upper terraces will introduce generous planting, while a dedicated ecological terrace will incorporate habitat features, such as bat and bird nesting boxes, to actively support urban biodiversity. Improved accessibility, permeability and cycle provision further reinforce a people-first, low-impact approach.
This is urban regeneration designed to create greener connections, richer habitats and vibrant spaces for community life.
