Our project CABI HQ, was nominated by ArchDaily’s ‘Office Building of the Year’ Awards!

The new headquarters for the international not-for-profit organisation, CABI (Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International), has been successfully completed. Macfarlane + Associates worked alongside architects Scott Brownrigg and project manager team Ridge and Partners LLP to create this two – storey carbon neutral office building reflective of CABI’s ethos for a sustainable, state of the art international headquarters with the aim of generating an attractive energy efficient working environment.

The building with an eye-catching exterior sit in a landscape that is most befitting, successfully integrating an experimental bio-diverse roof. The landscape geometry is based upon the building’s shifting massing with bandings of biodiverse plantings and wildflower meadows. The geometric pattern is then folded into the native buffers that blend the space into the wider Chilterns AONB. Workers can choose a variety of outdoor experiences, depending on mood or weather, exploring the ground on informal footpaths that meander through the grass and meadows.
