M+A is honoured to announce its appointment to work alongside WR-AP architects for the redevelopment of Tooting Bec Lido, the UK’s largest freshwater lido and the second largest in Europe. As part of this project, M+A will be delivering detailed landscape design, contributing to the innovative and sustainable approach to transforming the historic site.

Situated in Tooting Common, a large public green space serving Streatham and Tooting Bec, the lido recently underwent a £4 million renovation by Wandsworth Council. Following the successful redevelopment of its southern section, including the South London Swim Club’s clubhouse, the northern area is now set for modernization.

This winning proposal prioritizes sustainability and modernization, focusing on optimizing the operational efficiency of the pool including hard and soft landscape improvements, integrating green roof systems, and upgrading the site’s security infrastructure. The scheme highlights M+A’s dedication to sustainable landscape design, where functionality and aesthetics are seamlessly integrated. By collaborating closely with WR-AP and MKA Ecology, we are not only focused on enhancing the visual and practical elements of Tooting Bec Lido but also on aligning the redevelopment with forward-thinking environmental goals. Our approach ensures that Tooting Bec Lido will continue to be a cherished public space, while meeting modern standards of sustainability, biodiversity, and visitor satisfaction for future generations.
